Stream Machine Product Discussion

Since Stream Machine is still very relevant to the market, I thought a further look at their products would be worth doing. They have useful products for naval wars as well as water balloons, filler kits, and slingshots.

The syringe tubes are nice for quick-buying, with my main complaint being the lack of a more robust nozzle design and ability to disassemble and reassemble. A better nozzle that's able to fill water balloons as well as direct the stream better would be nice since I don't have the arm strength to push out a Flash Flood's worth of output that far. This was an issue in the Soakemore beach landing. I guess I just gotta hit the weight room. The lack of disassemblability means you can't replace the seal easily when the time comes, and it'll definitely come sooner than later if the Stream Machine is used in natural water often.

They also have a dip tube/weight, which probably works similarly to the design I made on a homemade PPH by using two check valves: one before the nozzle and one from where the tube goes through.

Lastly, they have a device to turn your Stream Machine into a... household toilet plunger. http://www.streammachine.com/DrainGun.html I don't think I'd ever use a Stream Machine for water warfare again after using it as a plunger, lol.

Picked up one of the small Stream Machines - will review once I get a little more free time.

As for the whole toilet plunger adapter, some refill sources should simply be off limits.

So are stream machines just a wide piston powered by, err, hand, or do they have some kind of spring/air pressure/laminator going for them that makes them shoot so far?

Even DX may have objections to certain water sources, heh.

@soakinader: Stream Machines are only simple syringes. The nozzle is machined well for lamination (smooth plastic, but that's it), but the range comes mainly from the user's arm strength and from the very high flow. Lamination outside of the sheer flow/output and good plastic machining is non-existent. The stream almost turns into clumps of large water blobs; devastating soakage to anyone it lands on.

The piston is a bit wide; smaller pistons would enable more force for the same arm strength required, potentially resulting in more distance. Stream Machine tubes are very close to 1 1/2" Sch. 40 PVC. I built my own syringe on 2" Sch. 40, which was far too large and I could not get any useful range out of it except with only the smallest nozzles. (I would permit it in the "light blasters only" ruleset LOL.)

While searching their site, I found this and this. I didn't know Stream machine made pressurized guns. We may want to look into those. But then again, they are likely crap. The CSG X5 appears to have a pinch trigger, and the CSG X4 has no reservoir cap, probably just a screw-on bottle.

I ignored those pressurized blasters for the reasons you mentioned. I'm primarily focused on their syringe and water balloon related products here; stuff we'd actually use. (Although the plunger was pretty interesting.)

I've actually handled and tested (did not buy) the CSG-X4. It felt really cheaply made and had a remarkably small opening to fill the screw-on bottle from. The stream, however, was actually pretty decent. That said, I'd be afraid that something else would give up after multiple uses and I'd be surprised if it managed to still function if it were accidentally dropped.
