CMC #2

Post by SEAL » Tue Jun 07, 2011 10:21 am

Alright, here's my second installment. I've decided to call my strips "Catskill Mountain Comics" (Or CMC.). Not the best name, but it was all I could think of.

And here it is...
Image

Alright, I admit that this was inspired by a few iSoak'D comics, but the story is new at least. :goofy:

By the way, how come the Humour section was moved to the News section?

Nice! HAHA1 Fun and so true, too!

BTW, I do like the title you've chosen for your strips. It adds some additional personality to them.

You should have made them running away from a Thunderstorm or something. :goofy:

True, if a soaker noob knows what the 2000 is, they can't be too much of a noob, right? Unless, of course, they willingly bought that Arctic Shock, Shot Blast, and Thunderstorm with their own money... :o

Yeah, that's something that's been bugging me for a while. My excuse is that the CPS 2000 is sort of a legend to the noobs, and none of them have ever seen one (In person.) or used one, therefore they are agast when they actually see one (And as evidenced by the FF user, they've never seen one shoot.). Because really, even if the 2000 had water in it, it could have been easily overcome by the noobs (If they weren't noobs. :goofy: ), due to their numbers and better agility.

I originally wanted to have the 2000 user shoot the noobs and have them running in fear of the powerful blast that puts their own blasters to shame, but I thought (It was actually my brother's idea.) it would be more funny if there wasn't even any water in it.

Scott: I think that sometimes happens if your screen is to small or something (iSoaker knows.). If you want, I can post a link to the photobucket page. Here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy35 ... g&newest=1

Thanks for that link. It might be my screen size, I am using my Laptop, my desktop is still broken, another thing I must do once school gets out and I have more time, and it does have a pretty small screen. I did try the soom out funtion on Internet Explorer but it didn't help. Oh well, school gets out in a week so my desktop will probaly get fixed a week or two later. Again, great job on the comics, glad isoaker is willing to let you use his pics.

This comic requires a browser window width of approximately 1310 pixels from Chrome at default size for me. (I stretch the window so it's just large enough to not cutoff the comic, then ctrl-alt-printscreen, paste in paint, and check.) Numerous laptops are either 1280x800 or 1366x768 which are very small screen areas to work with by today's standards.

Ideally, the best solution for the board software is to reduce the image size and expand it when clicked, stretching the entire post or even page if necessary. Many boards have rules that limit image sizes anyhow, to be friendly to those browsing on smartphones, piss-poor quality or extremely busy internet service, etc.

It cuts off on me too. I just copy the image URL and go there to view it. It would be helpful if you included a link/made the image clickable.

Comic gets cut for me unless I maximize the window on my laptop.. thank gosh for 1440x900. SEAL's choice to use 1024px as a comic width gives more space, but sadly larger images get chopped by phpbb as space is needed for the sidebar details (screens with lower resolutions may already only have 1024px of horizontal space to work with). I've tried reducing sidebar width already, but doing so causes other page formatting problems. In the end, simple solutions include right-clicking and selecting "View Image" (in Firefox), saving the picture locally and viewing, and/or browsing to a image link assuming SEAL provides one.

You don't have to copy the image URL, you can just drag it into the address bar unless you're using a long outdated internet browser.

@iSoaker: I get 4240 total width, thanks to my Radeon 5770 and DP to DVI active converter lol. (1680x1050 in center and 1280x1024 on sides.) Wish I could get a 1920x1080 monitor for blu-ray and 16:9 gaming, but I'll deal with that later. But either way, the super-width comes in handy sometimes, such as when gathering Google maps.

Oh wow, that's amazing. I had no idea you could do something like that. :goofy:

You can also drag it over the new tab button to open it in a new tab.

@CA99: once docked, my full screen width becomes 3520 (1920x1080 + 1600x900 monitors). Having lots of screen real-estate makes doing some work much, MUCH easier. Can do lots of multiple comparisons, work while being able to keep an eye on incoming emails, keeping some chats open while working in other applications, and so much more. I'm tempted to pick up another larger monitor so I can have two 1920x1080 monitors together, but all in due time. My docking station only supports two monitors at a time, but while laptops are definitely more expensive than desktops and more limited in graphics and processing power, I need the portability too much and don't want to be syncing files. Ok, this is digressing...

When it comes to designing stuff for the web, while many people have higher-resolution monitors, I still tend to err on the conservative side when designing graphics and websites. I usually assume that people browse at ~1024px and scale everything down accordingly. I, personally, don't use full screen browsing much and prefer having multiple windows open (and browsers with multiple tabs, too, plus multiple windows). :goofy:

For web design, I try to get sites to scale to as many resolutions as possible, even going as far down as supporting very low widths when possible. This is because if someone is browsing on 1280x800 and they dock the browser to half the screen, the site will be forced to fit into 640 of width, but will still be browsable if adapted for it. Kinda crazy to do but gives more options. That said, I still kind of lack the HTML skill to really make things adapt for such low resolutions easily, and I often try to target widths of about 800 to 1000 while supporting higher widths. (I pretty much never use fixed width, because every time I start doing so, I can't stand working with it after an hour or two.)

Nowadays, that's the nature of creating stuff. You have everything from 960x545something smartphones to stacks of monitors 2048 pixels wide each. Heck, someone might even plug into an old 480i tube TV collecting dust, you never know.

In case you hadn't noticed, I did provide a link in my last post. My screen just happens to be extra wide (Not sure exactly how wide.), and that's why I can see the whole thing while others can't. No big deal though; I will always provide a link to the photobucket page in my future comic threads.
