To Paint or Not to Paint?

Post by marauder » Sat Jan 28, 2012 6:52 am

I consider painting an external mod, so I'm putting this post here.

What makes you decide what guns to paint and what guns not to paint? Maybe you paint all your guns. Or perhaps none at all?

The guns that I don't paint are usually smaller ones with colors that I like. The kind that's fun to just run around the yard with. I'm planning an easy non performance mod for my 240 when I get home.

I just bought this alternate color 240 on ebay:

I'm going to replace the reservoir with the translucent blue reservoir on my current 240:

Then I'm going to sell the other 240 on ebay.

I typically paint guns that are either for use, or that are in really bad condition. Sun-faded guns, for example, usually get the spray treatment - it makes an otherwise ugly soaker look great.

Some guns certainly benefit from a paintjob more than others. I would have to say that WW guns, while functionally superior to Super Soakers, are often not as fun to look at. A good paintjob can cure that.

I never paint my guns, I'm kind of a "it will ruin the resale value!" kind of guy even though I never sell anything. The other reason is that I am not good at paint, not only am I not good at the painting part, it gets every where, even on cloths that I'm not currently wearing (don't ask)! But for me the reason to paint a gun would be more for functionality, camo and that sort of thing. I am considering trying to get some sort of cloth to drape over my guns this year, but we will see if I get to it.

Well, there's no point in painting sidearms (Unless you don't like the color.), since they're out of sight most of the time. I'd only paint a blaster if it's in bad asthetic condition (Otherwise I give it a camo cover.), and I plan on using it a lot.
