Warning to all CPH builders

Post by Fishfan » Sun Oct 14, 2012 5:58 pm

DO NOT use anything in your homemade CPS that involves the use of petroleum products. Even if it says silicon on the lubricant, Read every single label on the product. If it says ANYTHING with petroleum, than DO NOT USE IT. I made the mistake myself on my first (and currently only) CPH. The bladder popped THREE times. Please don't make the same mistake I did and read EVERY SINGLE WORD on the lubricant you buy. I bought Dupont Teflon silicone lubricant, and it said on the back "contains petroleum distillates." I cannot make this more clear.
Thank you for reading.

Generally, any kind of spray will have some form of petroleum product as propellant. Just something else to bear in mind.

'Kay. LRT is LATEX rubber tubing. latex is natural, so it balances with natural lubes. Petroleum is NOT natural, therefore the 2 react negatively.

Or you could make an APH… :goofy:

Cynicism aside, this is a good point. And that really sucks about your CPH.

Well, after I get a little less broke, I will get a new bladder and since I learned from this experience, it won't happen again!
I could have build an APH, because even though the Lowe's around here doesn't supply sch. 40 4" pipe, but the home depot does. Yes, I have Home depot, Lowe's, and Ace Hardware. Yep, I'm lucky.
But I preferred the no-dropoff and better power of the CPH. And it looked slightly less awkward. Even though there is more chances of problems.
