Off topic, but special nozzles can also prevent water from breaking up. They are very expensive though.
I've only seen one once, really odd design, but it could spray a pulsing stream, that would stay as a PERFECT line of water through the air and did not become white (didn't get air in it) and it travelled MUCH farther than a normal spray, probably 1.5x the distance under the same conditions. They hit much harder too, think of rain, or 2 gallons of water dropped on your head (it keeps air out of the water stream, meaning more density hitting you). I want one of em'...

I suggested a while ago that perhaps in a sniper-type water blaster design to use this special type of nozzle that I heard about somewhere. I finally found it! This was posted by Xray on the SSC Boards a long time ago in a topic about adding glycerin to water to increase range. Seems they're expensive.
Can anyone offer more info?

This thread belongs in the Workshop. There are definitely some special nozzles out there. I can think of those funky fountains that make water 'jump' from place to place with the streams staying nice and solid throughout the trip. All has to do with proper lamination of the stream to keep things more cohesive.
Adding glycerin to the water has a similar effect (in terms of cohesion), but is not recommended for water fights since it feels gooey-er (even in low concentrations) and leaves some residue when dry. It's not toxic, but not great to get in your eye, either.

I'd ask Xray if you're looking for more information.
I have made my own special nozzle design, yet untested by myself, but in theory it should reduce the turbulance in the nozzle. I have seen similar designs used (in a hose nozzle of all things) and reportedly, some water guns use a similar nozzle set-up.
As for special nozzles increasing range by 50% as Xray reported... that would be a stretch. I believe there was some other discussion on the nozzle Xray mentioned, but I can not find it at the moment.
The glycerin I have tested must have been different than iSoaker's... mine was soft and silky I suppose and marked as toxic. Might have just been that I used the skin-care type of glycerin however.

The FFs normal nozzle has that type of thing, so does the hydroblade, and I think all of the other STE line, but not the triple shot.
Stealth over speed. Accuracy over firepower. Coordination over chaos.
Only the arrogant claim they do not make mistakes in combat, hence they never learn.
