50-60' range would be too short for those battling fires. Check out this page of a little fire hose firing competition. No, not using machines to pump; just good ol' people power.

With their set-up, they can push streams upwards of 250'!!!

Not bad at all...

I was just on a one week class trip and saw an EXELLENT exhibit on Benjamin Franklin, and I saw his fire hose cart that looked like a smaller version of that.

Shouldn't be hard to build, just need lots of people!
