I've finally got some of the parts for this. The pump will be sealed by 2 washers (I couldn't find O ring that size) held by a screw. so far it looks massive and will be slightly larger than a Monster XL. See the Homemade Super Soakers facebook page for a picture.

Re: my LPD

As a reply for Andrew and CA99's post in the original thread for it

Ca99 I think I can manige the massive beast when filled.

Andrew Ratio is 1-1 allowing for maximum shot time without range drop and 2' of 4" pvc compromises the PC

And as for range on a given nozzle. I estimated that based on Ben success with the LPD 100 that CA99 has. Testing may prove that wrong but I can wait to find out.

The 60x riot blast should soak anyone in just a tap shot, something the "Gas valve" I will use as a trigger let's me do well without throwing off my aim. This gun will be a killer in soakfest at least and if it all works like I predict in all other game types to.

(Discussion continued from this thread.)

I think I'm just salty that the piston in the LPD won't seal. I was really hopeful for this whole thing, but now I have to saw the thing back open to check it out. That's what really bothers me with the LPD design: If it doesn't work, you have to saw it open, then solvent weld all that PVC all over again and thread it on.

One of these days I will buy the LPD 100 from you. Could be a long weight for both of us as I am saving for a car once I finish the Shockwave LPD .

Indeed, best way is to get it at a community war. However, since you said it'll be a long time, I won't say for sure that I'll sell it; I'll make a decision later on after I decide whether I want to give another shot at getting it to work.

I didn't know whether or not to consider my homemade as a LPD blaster before as it has a 1:1.5 water-air ratio (hence I call it Low-ish Pressure Dropoff). Maybe I should give it more credit than I have done! :D

6 gallons of water is about 27kg. I only had about 5.5 gallons altogether, but with about 5kg's of copper brass and steel that came to around 30kg. As the majority of the weight is on my back and shoulders (the blaster itself is slung to my body with a two point sling) I can move around fairly briskly with it (although my arms do start to get tired pumping against the pre-charge pressure hence the VERY rapid addition of a QFD :goofy: ).

If you can keep the weight of the body of the blaster down (with PVC that should be easier than with copper) you'll be looking at something similar in weight to, if not slightly lighter than, my LPD but with twice the PC volume!

Again, can't wait to see the results!

I think the blaster should weight between 3 and 4 kilo's not including water. Air pressure guns at just 1 to 1 ratios count as LPD's.

Ben defined an LPD as a water gun with between 30 and 50% pressure drop
Even CPS's have 25% pressure drop off

Thank you for eliminating my mobilty considerns Andrew.

The LPD I have, when empty, is slightly heavier than an empty Monster XL. The shoulder strap is pretty much required since there's no real handles on it. Mobility may not be a great concern in small playing areas, but it's not something I would discount in woods warfare over large areas. Although with a lower ratio (1:1), you do save a lot of PVC dead weight, but a CPS 2000 will still have that mobility advantage. Shot times should be close, but pumping should be more demanding on the LPD. (Not an advantage if no pressurized sources are available.) That extra bit of range is really going to have to be an effective advantage to compensate.

Perhaps it's all a lot easier than I'm making it out to be, but you guys know my experiences with the one I worked with. (i.e. Too much deadweight from PVC, those cable tie cuts get annoying, etc.)

I need to get back to work on this, I haven't done anything to the Shockwave LPD in 2 months. My goal now is to have it done by June (though I would really like to get it done by next Monday, or Tuesday) so I can test it in battle before the big 15 vs 15 CTF game in July. Then once it's done I will paint it Black for extra Intimidation factor and add a strap.

One of my friends suggested using large metal washers to help prevent the piston cups from warping; he may be onto something here. Of course, I won't be able to try that out for a while, if ever at all.

I shouldn't have to mention to use care with colors/painting, and that people can mistake things really easily. Then again, DX painted a Douchenator fully black before, apparently without problems. It all depends on the situation, I guess.

Thanks for the tip CA99 I will do that if I can. don't worry either I will leave the ball valve and end caps unpainted.
