Why do you engage in water fights? I've had some thoughts recently, but before pushing them up, I'd like to have members do a couple of thought exercises. This thread is for Soaking Exercise 1.

In point form, list five to ten reasons on what you feel water fights/wars are for.

Soaking Exercise 2 will be based on points listed in Soaking Exercise 1. Posts here also serve to help me put my own incomplete thoughts together.

1. Battle of the wits/minds
2. Alternative to Paintball/Airsoft
3. Having a fun time with friends
4. Good quality war games without much pain
5. Not banned under any town ordinances like other war games
6. Promotes physical endurance, self-confidence, patience, and getting along with others
7. Enhances speed, agility, reaction time, reflexes, and arm accuracy
8. Chance to gain leadership and teamwork skills
9. Good way to enjoy a hot summer day [or a cool rainy day] [or a warm summer night]
10. Just plain fun and addicting
Yeah, my ideas may differ from others'. The caliber of your wars is reflected in what kind of ideas you come up with.

I don't usually think about it in much detail, but here goes:
1.It's fun.
2.It's something to do with friends.
3.It's a chance to cool off when it's warm out.
4.It's moderately good exercize.
5.It's a chance to fight and practice fighting behavior without hurting each other.
6.It's something to do with friends.

4. its a game of skills,physical ablity and the mind
5. it brings people together
6. anyone and any age can do it (heck just look at the forums)
7. the girls love it (insert a wink and thumbs up here)
8. it gets people outside
9. to engage in a tacticle war game where no one gets hurt

- fun
- getting others soaked (and enjoying their facial expressions 
)
- getting self-soaked (in hotter weather, great way to cool off)
- light form of exercise
- has sport-like elements (that I want to develop further)
- friendship / group builder (girls / ladies / women love it like Dacca said )
- water r0xx0rz!
- easy to get others in the game, but takes practice to do well
- open to everyone with interest

Not sure which universe it's in, but I'm just glad I find myself also in that universe.
Of course, the statement 'girls love it', I believe is aimed more are general water fights and soakfests as opposed to more organized games. Then again, with the group I know, I hope to introduce a little more organized water fighting this summer.

Well for one, it dosen't normally hurt as much, and it is less like real guns.

I was wondering about that myself. Are we talking about "actual" girls as in not having an adams apple? (You know people, bringing your soakers to a strip club doesn't count. The dancers have to pretend to find everything cool about the visitor. HA! :p )
Granted, my forum has a monthly "water fight babe" section, but these models had be be payed to pose with a soaker. Otherwhise they would not go near those.
I am quite suprised, since women usualy are into more socialy respected activities like dance clubs and buying useless crap in malls. Soakers are generaly seen for kids and social degenerates. A Soaker battle makes even a LOTR convetion look like Heffner's pool party. There are Trekkies who have been exposed to more estrogen at conventions than water fighters. I can keep on going with how counter-culture water guns in our age group is, but people should get the idea by now. Well, if your local area happens to be the twillight zone with soakers being babe-magnets, enjoy it as long it lasts. Or untill the soaker fight has to stop, becasue it is raining Skittles.

Don't be so negative. It doesn't necessarily attract women, but they don't really mind. Almost everybody I know doesn't mind waterfights and actually enjoys them every once in a while. Not everybody is as seriously interested in them as I.
1. It's really fun.
2. Creates lots of good memories.
3. A less expensive and safer alternative to paintball and the like.
4. As someone has said before, it is not prohibited by any laws and can be played anywhere.
5. Good excersize, for both the body and the mind.
6. Encourages teamwork.
7. Good for hot days.
8. I've got nothing.
9. It's fun...?
10. Still nothing.

Girls don't embrace organized warfare outright, but they don't shy away from it either. I wouldn't be surprised if Waterbridge is able to put one or two under arms this year.
And as for the social level of water fights, do know that our teams in Ridgewood are composed of all types of people [except emo kids, nobody likes emos :p]. Jocks, nerds, and just about everything in between, stretching across all four high school grades. Water warfare, at least in this 6x6 mile area, is red hot.

well yeah, so far i havn't met a girl who would be down for an orgonized game of water warfare. but from my experiance, hand a girl a soaker and they'll have just asmuch fun as anyone else. sure this is usually soakfests and such, but its still fun and a great thing to do on a hot day which is probobly the reason why everyone loves it.

Hmm... I had meant to develop a 'Part II' for this thread. There is something rather interesting in the responses which is actually the thing I'm hoping members to think about. While I formulate the contents of Part II, I invite anyone else who hasn't already posted a listing to add in their own list of reasons.

The monkey soaks because:
1) He has nothing else to do between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM on Saturdays.
2) Because he enjoys using his opposable thumbs.
3) Because, without sweat glands, soaking is a very efficient way of cooling off in the jungle.
4) Because he can.
5) The thrill of the hunt (You can't deny this).
6) The power to make someone else wet).
7) He enjoys tinkering with the plastic guts of water guns.
He enjoys the finer aspects of life such as smelly epoxy getting stuch to his eye balls.
9) He gets the chance to hang out with friends.
10) He enjoys talking about himself in the third person.

Because its fun.
Nothing better to do.
Cheaper/less painful option than paintball
That's all I could think of, haven't soaked someone in years....
