This was inspired by XP20Warrior's thread about using cars with water weapons. (I first pictured cheap escapes and drive-bys) It got me thinking about the possibility of using bikes as transportation right in the middle of the fight. You could use them to move places faster, like moving between different hot spots, or for going between the filling station and the battlefield itself. In this case, using it to cover ground quickly, then dismounting at one's destination and doing battle on foot. Or for retreating.
All that probably doesn't sound terribly innovative, but what does anyone think of using bikes as the actual means to conduct the battle? Like jousting or something, I guess. Shooting each other from your bikes as you ride around in (hopefully) an open area. ("...watch out for that tree...!") That gives a lot more depth to the speed factor in a game, a topic touched upon-- and which you should read about-- in much more detail in the Light Troops thread.
I'm really interested to hear some feedback on the premise and/or tactics of using bikes in a manner reminiscent of horseback combat.

except that if you're on a bike, and you stop, you topple over, and if you don't look where you're going a horse is smart enough not to crash.

Bike tactics may be interesting, though mixing in bike riders with those on foot could lead to crashes. I recall somewhere (probably on an old Aquatica board) someone talking about bike tactics a bit since people had discovered the Water Wheels idea. IMO, bikes at best could be used for quick drive-by soaks, but apart from hit-n-run tactics, trying to engage opponents for longer times is tricky since bike mobility is still more limited than foot speed when it comes to range of motion available.

I think I have to agree with you there, doing battle while mounted on bikes would prolly be limited to hit-n-run stuff. So then, unless someone else disagrees, or can suggest a way around these problems, I think it's safe to say that's pretty much a negatory on conducting water fights solely from atop bikes. One of my ideas about hit-n-run is that one could employ "bombers." In theory, they would ride their bikes to/past/by an enemy base equipped with water balloons, which they would unleash on the base as they go. After that, they could retreat to load up with more water balloons, or dismount and switch to blasters.
This type of troop multiplies the possibilites of different strategies. You could combine bombers with normal assault troops in the same attack, or one type after the other, to soften or surprise a target, etc.

If you were on bikes, the best weaponry would be SC guns, such as the Power Pak, SplashZooka, etc., seeing as it would be extremely awkward trying to pump while riding. And the Power Pak would be best by virtue of the fact its main weight is on the back, not the hand.

yea...since I mostly do urban battles....I could really use a splashzooka or powerpak for me to use while on my bike...

BTW if you have one you're willing to sell PM me...I won't be able to pay more than $30 not including shipping...

In a skirmish in WaterBridge we used some random kids to go scout for the other team on bikes.

Bikers are mostly good for spying and scouting, anything where they don't have to stay and fight. When on a bike during a soaker war, a strap/holster/clip for your soaker is important

Nibor and I plan to possibly use bikes for mid-battle transportation. Leave them at a place, then use them when necessary. You could still ride with 2 or more soakers, just put one in a backpack or strap it over your back. Then carry the other one in your hand and steer with the hand that's free. Easy. Bikes probably wouldn't be a good idea on the front lines and for actual combat. Not because of crashes, but because of the mobility you sacrifice when mounted.

Okay, some good points made in a number of different areas... Spinner made a somewhat profound insight in that SC-capable weaponry would be MUCH better suited to this sort of task. I don't think crashing into people would be too much of a problem, most people tend to stay out of the direct paths of ppl on bikes... Unless opponents tried some kind of Tienemen Square tactics, using their own bodies to block the course of bikers... One could make rules about that ahead of time, like, no mowing down ppl with your bike, no obstructing the motion of bikes with one's own person, etc. Scouting is another good idea for using bikes. If anyone has any info on holsters and other attachments that are specially suited for use with bikes, post up in this thread. If it's nothing special, you should still share your knowledge in the Accessory Mods thread.

bikes are good for speed if its an open road that not many cars go by on,however the weaponry for a bike is not very high once we were having a fight on the street so i was on my bike with a liqidator i didnt do that much damage though and at a slow pace(i have a small bike and im 11) my 15 yr old bro can run as fast as me,but not with a 1700 :cooll: :soakon2:
