REM War 27 October 2011 [Water War in a Dream]

So, a water war made it into my dream set rotation for the first time ever last night. I have a pretty vivid imagination and thus receive 1-7 dreams per night in stunning realism, every night, since I was about 8. Much of the time, it's far more interesting than being awake. Not only is 50%-all of the information retained, but I can remember every dream I have ever had. One thing that gives them such a realistic touch is that none are lucid - I don't know that it's just a dream, nor can I end them willingly. "School dreams" can last for up to 3 months worth of time in a single one-night dream and some of them are capable of running while I'm awake, so I fall way behind the next time that dream comes around (and the people in the dream like professors treat me like I'd always been there, always wondering why I haven't written papers or why I keep missing classes or can't find classes I didn't know I had). The dream sets most likely to recur are the ones that involve something I do in real life, or have thought about too much. Nerf wars have become particularly common and I've actually improved my real life skills because of this. Experience gained in a dream war actually transfers across because the memory is retained.

Anyway, very long story short, I finally had a water war dream. It's about damn time, too - I've only interacted daily with water warriors for like the past 7 years or so. It was a pretty unique war, featuring several members of the community.

So, I was at a nerf war in central Jersey. I'd finally convinced M4 and his cousins to come up, while Seal was able to make it down alone from New York. Nobody else could make it, which was a shame, probably too busy dodging slipper shells and jellyfish, dividing by zero, or serving time in a lego jail. Anyway, the 5 of us were down at this nerf war with nerfer types that I've been fighting with quite a lot this year. It was like a typical nerf war dream, except with water war people.

Now, in nerf wars there's often an hour break for lunch. Well, I'd brought some soakers with me just in case and you can guess it, everyone else had brought some just in case. So, we ditched lunch and brought out the soakers.

I had a gun that doesn't actually exist, but kicked serious ass for a gun of its class. It had an "SS 240" sticker and was like a CPS 1200, but with an AP pc and a massively wide reservoir. The cap was about as wide as a DVD and operated like a swing valve, so you poured water in and then it closed itself. It wouldn't always stay perfectly shut, but it wouldn't let any water slosh out by design. The PC and everything beyond the 2nd check valve were made of metal so it could take higher pressure than a normal AP gun. It was shooting 60ft without any modifications. The nozzle was about 4-7x.

Everyone else brought the guns they'd used in the 2011 Community War. M4 had a 2000 MK1 and an SS 100. His cousins had a 1500 and 2500, while Seal brought a 2700.

There was this abandoned barn nearby that we chose to fight at. It was just like the one I used to have when I lived in Jersey - pretty small, with a shitload of furniture inside. A very narrow stairway in the near right corner when facing it from the main double doors led to a 2nd floor. There was a rear door in the far right corner. The windows were boarded up except the front window which was half broken. We agreed not to try and shoot through that one. The 2nd floor had an empty hayloft with a 2nd floor window that could be opened and closed.

The game was simple OHK with no time limit. The first teams were M4 and his cousins defending with me and Seal attacking.

M4's team went in and closed the double doors. The signal to start was when the side door was closed. I talked with Seal and we decided that someone would likely be guarding each door, so one of us would handle the doubles while the other one tackled the side door. I guessed that Rambo and Will would be defending the doors and M4 would be back more and use his range to back either of them up. That, or he'd go up high and defend from the hay door, which would be a problem. However, we were all still getting used to the barn layout and no one went upstairs to start.

The side door slammed shut and the game was on. Seal went around to the side and I tiptoed up to the doubles. I stood behind the right one and yanked it open while staying low and away. A huge blast of water came flying out and Rambo with it, but that opening salvo missed to the center. Adrenaline got the best of me and my own shot missed just in front of him, so he was able to open the left door and take cover behind it. I could hear M4 yelling something, but I couldn't tell where he was. I backed up, staying out of the angle of the center so M4 couldn't get me from inside and tried to draw Rambo out. We exchanged tap shots when he came out, but then he ran back inside.

So, I carefully opened the right side door all the way and latched it outside. I then backed way the eff up and walked around to latch the left one. From the angle of the left door, I could see Will and Seal fighting through the side door, which Seal had managed to open, but couldn't get through. I didn't see Rambo, but peering through the darkness inside, I got a glimpse of M4. There was this huge coffee table in the center and his shoe was sticking out the side.

I was like holy eff and jumped back several feet. He realized that he'd been spotted and pulled his foot in and fired a tap shot. I got back outside and it came up short. We traded a few more shots like that until I made a break for a couch to the left and made it. Now he had to turn around to be able to fire at that side. And that's where I made a plan, seeing how long it took to bring that long ass 2000 around. I jumped off the couch right onto the top of the coffee table.

Now that defined what a shot of adrenaline is. I was shaking as I rushed to try and get my gun down under the edge and I'm sure he had the same reaction trying to shift around and get the 2000 around. It was easier to point a gun in there then bring it around 90 degrees, so I got him. Never actually saw where the shot went, but I heard his reaction and knew it hit.

Seal had also taken out Will. Will had been shooting a bit of mist while Seal's 2700 like never runs out of water so Seal was able to press in and get him.

However, I was getting up and then a huge shot of water hit me in the head. I was like WTF and looked up and there was a huge hole in the ceiling with a 2500 nozzle sticking out of it. So that's where Rambo went.

And so it was just Rambo and Seal. Seal started shooting up at the hole, but Rambo had the better angle and Seal couldn't find cover in time. Rambo got him on the 3rd shot when Seal was scrambling for a better position.

So M4's team won the first battle. We came back together and refilled and talked about how awesome that was, then switched sides. This time I would defend with Seal while M4 and cousins would attack.

Our strategy would be different because we had the short stack. M4 would be able to have 2 people storm the double doors, so I decided we should start the defense from upstairs. Seal would cover the stairs and I would cover the hay window.

I went downstairs without a gun to close the double doors. Since I'd have to close the side door then get up those narrow ass stairs, M4 might have time to get the doubles open first. Therefore I pushed that couch in front of the doors and piled some other stuff on top of that to block the entrance and buy some seconds.

Then I slammed the side door and booked it up to the stairs. The double doors flew open and I heard expressions of surprise. They started de-piling the barrier, but that gave me time to get upstairs and to the hay window. By the time I was in position, they got about half the stuff out of the way and felt it coming. M4 had them withdraw to the outside. However, he realized that all of them could just go around to the side door and I couldn't do anything about it from that angle. So, they did that instead of challenging the hay window.

So now all 3 were inside and I shifted to the hole in the floor. Will shifted quickly and made it past my shot. M4 then covered Rambo and I had to get back to avoid the 2000 stream. M4 then ran across before I could reset.

However, they now had to get up the stairs and with both of us covering, it was a nigh impossible (always wanted to use that phrase in a sentence!) obstacle. They were smart enough not to try and force it, but came up close and probed the defense. With my SS 240's range, they couldn't even come anywhere near the first step. Even with M4's covering fire, nobody managed to touch it.

It was a pretty bad standoff. We had no intention of moving or shooting anymore unless they came up close. Having already won the first battle, M4 was like whatever and had them all just bum rush the stairs so we could get on to the next game. It was actually more effective than you'd think, as that 2000 stream really makes you get out of the way. With M4 shooting over Will and Rambo, they managed to keep me from coming over the top of the rails and the 2000 range made Seal have to move back. I did come back to the rail, but M4 almost took my head off with another blast.

So, I jumped back, got down, and crawled up to the rail and pointed my gun down over the side. The sound of *Ahhhhhhhwhwhhhh* was a good one to hear. But, it turns out I only got Rambo. I completely demolished him, but we had to let him come upstairs to wait since there wasn't enough space to turn around on the stairs. M4 and Will were able to improve their position when this happened. Now M4 was high enough on the stairs to shoot over the rail, so I moved back, but remained in range to hit the top of the stairs.

Seal kept trying to arc 10x shots down and in between 2000 blasts, was able to get one in to eliminate Will. M4 pumped while Will came up and out of the battle.

At this point, with Seal in killing range and me covering the side, M4 was screwed if he stayed there for another second, but he couldn't leave the protection of the rail either, and he knew it, so he unloaded the entire thing on Seal as I rushed in from the left, ensuring that he got something in a blaze of glory. So we won that round, although it was kind of cheap that they got to advance up the stairs while Rambo got out of the fight.

We walked back down to refill and this time decided not to use the upstairs. That, and we'd be switching up the teams and making it like CTF, except the objective would be more like FTF - find the flag. The defense would hide some bright object in the barn and the offense would have to find it among all the junk. There would still be no time limit. The defense would have unlimited lives with a 30 second respawn, while offense would have 3 lives.

We were about to divide up the teams when the dream unexpectedly cut out and I woke up. That sucked and I was unable to get back into the dream.

And that concludes my awesome water war dream.

Oh God, I've had countless dreams about water warfare. In fact, last night I dreamt that me, my friend and my brothers were having a 2vs2 in our usual battleground (Guess what blaster I was using.), and my brother was using my 12K, but I warned him that it didn't work, and he was stuck with the XP 220 (The one I brought on my trip.), so I think he was going to be on my team 'cause I had the most powerful blaster and it would be more fair. After that, it's nothing but haze. I rarely have vivid dreams like yours.
Seal was able to make it down alone from New York.
Don't I wish... :goofy:

Sorry DX, entirely not what I intended. I deleted it.

I wish I had dreams like you, mine are more splochy, but occasionally I have a really vivid dream.
A lot of times, I know the dream was detailed and awesome, but I forget any of the actual content and wish I could go back. Both of these types of dreams are about things I want to do or get, but cut out where my experience ends:
For example, when I was kid, I had a dream about this one toy. I found it in a store for free, and brought it to the checkout counter. When I got into the car, I opened it and the dream cut out.

Next time you get into this dream, you'll be stuch in an abandoned barn all by yourself :goofy:

The only WW-related dreams I can remember involved a 2500 at the outside around a friend's house. Not sure if it was combat, repair, testing, or all/none of the above.

Had another one last night. I was at some big war that M4 was hosting (Maybe a Vermin War?), and all I remember is that we were waiting in some bushes to ambush the other team when they came out of some building, but they got into an SUV and drove away before we could attack. Weird, huh? For some reason, I was using M4's camoed SS 100, and my brother Keith (Jon wasn't there.) had a SS 50, probably one of mine. The 100 was leaking at first, until I did something with it (Can't remember.), and it suddenly got a much thicker stream, and shot 50 feet.

It was actually kind of similar to a fictional war story that I'm writing at the moment.

It's funny, I've been having water war dreams almost every single night. I haven't been sleeping too well though.

Unlike you, I forget my dreams in a hurry, but one that sticks out in my mind was where sombody on a team I was fighting got into a fistfight with my brother, and I broke up the fight and knocked out the fight-starter. I can't remember anything else, but it was pretty dramatic.

I think it helps if you think about water wars a lot before you go to sleep. ;)

Bump ba-dump.

I have dreamed.

I woke up, and I realized it was a dream, and then I was sad. Mostly because the battle was just getting started. M4 showed up at my house in some horrendous car, and went up in the woods to fight with somebody before I realized who he was. Apparently, my dad had talked to him though. I went up in the woods for a walk, and saw him there. He I picked up and XP 20 or on of those ones that looks the same (it was old- the pump was in the grip) and he challenged me with some epic sheild-blaster type thing that looked very WWy. I started to fall back off the trail, then hid behind a tree for a shot. I caught him lunging to his right, where there was a gun. I ran out from cover and missed high and to the right as he leaned for the gun. He pulled it up, and It was either a 2K or 2.5K (the res was hidden from view) . I stumbled back, suprised, and saw a 3/8 in. wide hole, and a purple reservoir. I dropped my XP and ran. I sorta recall getting hit, but in the dream, it didn't feel wet, and my running lessened the impact. I ran to my house to get my AB or 2100. I got shorts on and asked my dad if I could have a water fight with this stranger (lol that's what I would'a done IRL). He said he had chatted with him before and that he seemed fine, go ahead (Not like him at all). I got my AB out of a bag (not there IRL mind you) and then I woke up.

Best part of it all is, I can get pictures of the battle ground. For real. M4 and I had a duel in this dream at a place that is on my property, down to the trees and path. It was identical. This was also my most realistic dream that I can remember.

Oh, and M4, you know you post too many pictures of yourself on this forum when you are in the dreams of someone who has never met you yet you look exactly the same as the pictures. I think you had that football jersey on…

I'm not sure if I ever had a water gun dream. It takes me like an hour to fall asleep so I day dream a lot then, and some times during the day when I am board. Once I'm asleep I almost never remember even having dreams, even less often do I remember them. I have such a logical mind though, I almost always figure out that I am dreaming and then have fun manipulating it at will! Sometimes it is really obvious, like the secret room behind my dresser which is against an outside wall, but often it is as little as my pencil was writing to long with out getting dull.
Oh wait, I did have a water gun dream, yesterday! I was at Carter Rock with my dad and my friend Bela, we had various OHK rounds all using midsized air pressure guns. Oh wait, that actually happened :P War report, and video, to come soon!

You're lucky - the real thing is always a great time!

I've experimented with a lot of techniques to see what actually raises the chances of having vivid dreams and remembering them - the key appears to be relentless imagination while awake. The more you daydream, the better. I've still found no silver bullet for determining what the subject of the dream becomes. You'd think something you do daily and/or intensely and/or obsess over would make it in, but it's more complex than that. Despite running for 7 years, I've only had 8 "track" dreams and despite fighting water wars since ~1997, only a single water war dream. There are times in the morning, when being awoken, but not all the way, where you can command a certain dream to happen and it goes.

Scott, you're lucky to achieve lucidity from inside an ordinary dream. I've tried so many times, with only 1 success and only 3 total for lucid dreams of any kind. None of those even got past the part where every dream you've ever had flashes by in front of your eyes. The sensation is too much and I wake up. Most of the dreams I have are so real that there is no way to figure it out, especially when I don't realize there even is such a possibility. This lack of knowing about RL is present even when my dream self is aware that skills used in the dream have been transferred from RL. I've started having Nerf war dreams where RL experience makes it into the dream, while experience gained in the dreams makes it back into RL, thus creating a two way exchange of knowledge rather than just the one way as it was before. The result is accelerated knowledge and being able to see dream counters generated against RL actions, so it is possible to get better at fighting without even having any wars.
Oh, and M4, you know you post too many pictures of yourself on this forum when you are in the dreams of someone who has never met you yet you look exactly the same as the pictures. I think you had that football jersey on…
You've got it easy, lol. The version of M4 that I fought in a dream was like a really smart AI that could use his real tactical preferences and then build on them. The scary part is when pretty much everyone you meet in a dream who exists in RL looks correct...even when you have never seen a picture of them. That goes for locations on the map, too. I've been to some places in dreams and later saw them in RL...and it blew my mind that they really looked like that! It's impossible...

Unfortunately, I can't claim to see the future haha, but I did have a truly freaky de-ja-vu dream once. De-ja-vu is only supposed to last for a moment, but this one was a full blown 10 or 15 minutes of perfect repetition in RL of a dream I had over 7 years earlier. It was mundane, too - just walking down the main street in Woodstock, NY, then having lunch at a cafe. I'd never been to Woodstock and thus was shocked when visiting and I realized that I was seeing that dream for real. Even the cars parked on the side of the street were identical, which is the most freaky part considering some of those models did not exist when I had the dream.

Atvan, I love your dream where "I stumbled back, suprised, and saw a 3/8 in. wide hole, and a purple reservoir" <---that's uh oh time haha.

I've been having a lot of dreams about the next community war lately, and I hope they come true, because I kicked ass in all of them (Except one time where SSC Ben hosed me down with an APH, although I got him at the same time.). :goofy:

For some reason though, a lot of the battles were held indoors...

WOW! How did I JUST NOW find this thread? I'm actually kinda glad that I didn't see it until now, it makes life better over here, when you can read awesome stuff like this that reminds you of home.

I know this was last year, but I think that since it didn't count for the Isoaker league it should count here. If anyone disagrees feel free to raise your voice about it. I'm going to say that these all qualify for Fictional Reports/Roleplaying, so:
DX: 5 points - write up a fictional battle report/story (500+ words), +2 points for grammar
Seal: 2 points - write up a fictional battle report/story (<500 words), +1 points for grammar
Atvan: 2 points - write up a fictional battle report/story (<500 words), +1 points for grammar

Unfortunately Jack and Will are moving to Indonesia... yes I said Indonesia... so, although I'm sure I'll have a battle or 2 with them every year, I doubt they will get to come to Downpour again.

I have countless dreams of going to the store and seeing a rare, powerful watergun, or an awesome Lego set, and waking up and realizing it's just a dream. I have had a few water war dreams - and fortunately no real war dreams. I will have to post about it the next time I remember. From time to time I dream about floating into the air and being able to control where I'm going. It really feel like I am floating into the sky, it's insane. Dreams fascinate me. There are, 7 or 8 stages of sleep? You actually don't dream in the deepest levels of sleep.

Wow. I know this is none of my business, but for what reason? Indonesia just seems like a strange place to move to from the U.S. (I mean, it's on the other side of the world!), that's all.

Oh yeah, you told me about that at the lake. Did that happen right before then?
I had a case of deja-vu once too. We used to collect these pirate ship card things (You'd punch out pieces of the ship from a card, and then stick the pieces together.), and I had a dream that my brother got these two certian models, and then a few weeks later, he actually got them! I was maybe 11 or 12, and I seriously thought that I had ESP. :goofy:

I love those things, "Pirates of the Spanish Main" and the dozen or so spin offs that were basically the same thing with different ships. I have maybe 20 ships, never really played the game much, but they were fun to collect. Its not worth going on Amazon for, but if I ever see them in stores again I will probably buy some more!

I've had a few deja-vu experiences, I don't really remember any examples but most were about video games I hadn't played I think.

Lol, no, but seriously, my aunt and uncle work for the government. I hope to visit them in Indonesia. They lived in China for 5 years. I didn't make the opportunity to go to China. Wish I had.

I keep having dreams involving going into dollar/discount/consignment stores and finding big CPS guns. It's really annoying because I wake up with nothing, lol. Monday night it was a dollar store esque place that I've been to before in past dreams. They always have something CPS and I walked out with a CPS 2500, 3000, and 2100 for a few bucks. Now the dream I just woke up from was in a new area, and I was actually targeting water guns rather than happening to find them in a random store. I hit up a K Mart kind of place and you wouldn't believe the selection of water guns they had. Unfortunately, most things were priced at market rates, ie the euro version CPS 2000 MK1 was $250 and the other 2000s were between $150 and $200. It sucked because they had so many. The only thing within my budget was a weird version of the CPS 1000 for $12. It was like a super shooter 2000 type of thing, but not.

So maybe this is an indicator that I should actually start looking in these types of places?

I had 2 water war dreams last night. The setting was backstage in an active college theater, while a performance was going on. You know, full audience, actors on the stage, lights, and us behind the curtain toting water guns. There were two levels and 3 options for getting from one side to the other. From left to right:

The open backstage was on the left. Not much concealment, but lots of objects to slow down attackers. A long, winding, narrow, hallway was on the right. It had several branch-offs leading to changing rooms and the such. The center route was a high hallway, the 2nd level. Both side routes had stairs up to it on both ends. It was enclosed, so you couldn't see the other routes except from the doors on each end. Basically, the place was an ambusher's paradise.

The gametype was the highly unusual CTF Elimination, where you only get 1 life. I would not recommend actually trying to play this for real. 1 flag per team, no time limit.

The teams were Scott, Brandon, Keith, and Jon vs me, Ben, and Stephen Daniel. I have no idea why he was in the dream, we've never fought. Maybe it was because I was looking at the Water Cannons FB page late last night. Scott had a 2500, Brandon had a 2700, Keith had a 1200, Jon had a Vindicator, I had a 2000 mk2, Ben had a 2000 mk1, Stephen Daniel had a 12K.

Anyway, time started and we decided to bring our flag up to the center hallway, right in the doorway. Ben started sneaking down the center, while Stephen Daniel took up an ambush position on the stairs stageside and I took up an ambush position around the corner of the right side hallway. The enemy got there in a hurry. I saw Brandon coming and stuck my 2000 around the corner, but the valve got stuck and a super laminated stream dribbled out about 10ft. He jumped back in surprise, but his return shots were ineffective from the angle I was at. He got away, but didn't leave. I had to retreat up the stairs to use the height advantage to boost my range.

That's when I saw Stephen jump out and totally destroy Keith, but Scott unloaded his 2500 on Stephen. He wasn't expecting 2 enemies. When Brandon heard what was happening, he pressed up cautiously and I had to fall back to the doorway. There, I had a 1 on 2 and a typical blocking position that neither of them could get through. My 2000 started shooting normally again, so they couldn't get in range up the stairs close enough. They could see the flag, and it annoyed them to be so close, yet so far. At one point, Scott was closer to the flag than I was. They had me where I had to stand back in the center hallway, defending my flag only through range. Neither of them wanted to be the one to try reaching around the corner to grab it, especially after Brandon stuck his hand out and I almost hit it, along with hitting pretty much the whole doorway opening.

But, the delay gave Ben enough time to do whatever he does alone on offense. He ended up coming back with the enemy flag. Turns out they'd only left Jon back on defense, and Ben was able to ambush him from the center hallway door on the other end. Ben saw his shadow and fired at it. The angle was weird enough that a 5x stream would have missed, but the mk1 2000 just wrapped around and hit everything. We won the battle, but I was still annoyed at the very beginning, when I had a seriously awesome ambush on Brandon, but my gun malfunctioned.

So, I actually reset the dream and rolled it back. This is incredibly rare, as I am usually 100% utterly at the mercy of whatever happens in my dreams, including events that end in sure death. In this case, I "escaped" the dream and made the decision to roll it back from outside (still asleep). Everything went black, and next thing you know I was in the exact same dream again, and with no memory of the previous version until I woke up. Everything happened the exact same way, with one exception: when I put my 2000 around the corner, it fired normally and soaked the crap out of Brandon. The door battle became a 1 on 1, and Scott did not manage to get nearly as close as before. Outcome was the same, and the next dream took over with no transition. I had 7 dreams last night in total. My single night record is 9 and I could have beat it, but woke up too early and didn't go back to sleep.
